Guided tours

To see as much as possible in an hour or two, it is necessary to travel by car or bus. During a three to four hour acquaintance tour in the central part of the park, one will visit famous sights such as Ladakalnis Hill, Ginuciai castle-mound and watermill, Traini?kis Oak and Traditional Beekeeping Museum in Stripeikiai. Other suggested tours are: ethnographic villages, archaeological sites in the southern part of the park, Palu?e village and a pre-historical exhibit. For nature lovers, we suggest a guided tour along the botanic trail near Palu?e, a bird watching trip or a 2-3 hour walk in the Ažvin?iai Old-growth Forest. The guided tour can be booked in the national park Visitor Information centre. The price for one person is from 0.5â?? to 1.5â?? per hour. It is necessary to book a guided tour in advance!

Outdoor trips

To explore the largest area of the park, one should plan on an outdoor excursion. Staff of the ANP Visitor Information centre will help you schedule the time and method, as well as the route of the trip. Most of them start in Palu?e. Water tourism is the oldest kind and has a well developed infrastructure. Need a rowing boat? Three boat rentals are ready to help you. Want a kayak or canoe? No problem - there are plenty of canoe and kayak rentals which will provide you with all necessary equipment. Water trips can take from one day to a week - depending on which route is chosen. Managers from rental offices will assist you. Afraid to get lost? The hired guide will take care of you.

Hiking in the park has become increasingly popular, maybe because no special equipment is needed. The most popular two-day route leads from Palu?e to Tauragnai. cyclists and car drivers can try the Small and the Great Ring - 40 and 80 km long loops. The newly opened hiking-cycling route passes all the most beautiful sights and places of the park. Bicycle rental is seasonal, but some rentals will help if called.
The region is known for the longest snow season in Lithuania. Therefore in winter it is the best destination for the cross country skiing.

Nature watching

Forests and lakes of the national park are full of wild birds and animals. In summer visitors frighten the larger animals, so they hide in the woods. But summer is the best season for underwater photography. The 3,5 km long self-guided botanic trail near Palu?e and the birdwatching tower near Lake Kretuonas in Re?¡kutėnai are open to visitors all year round. The Ažvin?iai Old-growth Forest and Lake Baltys strict nature reserves can be entered only with a guide from the park administration and not during the breeding season, which lasts from April to July.
